In place of the usual newsletter this week, I wanted to make two little announcements.

The first is that Money Talk - well, me really - has been shortlisted for Blogger of the Year at the 2022 Headlinemoney Awards.

It’s a highly regarded award for the industry and I’m up against some stellar bloggers, including previous winners.

Blogger of the Year is a new category this year and the results will be announced in July, so fingers crossed for me.

Some of you will remember that last year, Money Talk was shortlisted in the Blog of the Year category, which brings me to my next little announcement.

Money Talk turned two today!

I can’t believe the little project that I started during the first lockdown, when I was furloughed from my day job, is still going strong.

As anyone who has ever put together a weekly newsletter will know, there’s a lot of work involved.

Not just the research and the writing but also getting the word out there so more people would read it.

The last year has been particularly tough as lockdowns ended, life returned to semi-normality and I went back to working full time.

Much of it meant Saturdays tied to the laptop instead of making the most of this renewed freedom.

I also went freelance and started travelling more for work, which meant more odd hours working on Money Talk and trying to plan ahead so I don’t drop the ball.

The newsletter this week for example comes from my hotel room and the airport lounge in Helsinki.

Part of what’s kept me going is that over the last two years, I’ve saved family and friends, as well as myself of course, hundreds of pounds a year by sharing insights from experts and covering topics that are too niche for mainstream presses.

But of course, as with any project, its success depends on support from others.
